How To Thrive as an Entrepreneur with a 9-5 Featuring Kyshira Moffett of HerMovement
Before this blog takes off, I want to give my personal praise for this amazing spirit that I have encountered. It's been over a year since I stumbled upon this jewel, and I can't begin to describe the amount of positive energy, information, and ideas she's bestowed upon me. So, for my first blog feature, who better to call on than the unstoppable, trustworthy, goal getting, irresistible Kyshira Moffett.
Kyshira S. Moffett MBA, is the founder and Chief Bombshell Officer of The KSM Group. She is a global brand strategist with expertise in digital engagement. She is also the founder of Life of a Bombshell Cosmetics and author of Bombshell of All Trades. Kyshira is also the creator of #HERmovement, a lifestyle brand that has skyrocketed into a full-fledged movement. The blog centers on business, branding and lifestyle topics. #HERmovement represents today's busy bombshell, the ambitious millennial in pursuit of excellence while feeling the fear and doing it anyway. Since its inception in 2013, #HERmovement has grown to reach thousands of readers globally! Branches of #HERmovement include a growing Facebook group, The Bombshell Diaries Podcast, YouTube Channel and a monthly Twitter chat that was featured in Ebony Magazine.
At what point did you decide to explore the folds of entrepreneurship?
Post grad in 2013 is when I began to venture into side hustling. I was writing resumes and LinkedIn profiles for college friends who wanted to explore new careers. My sorority sister told me to stop doing it for free because I was doing quality work. People were landing interviews and job offers because of my services so I decided to monetize.
You’re the kind of woman I call special, balancing a 9-5 amongst the hectic workload of maintaining a business outside of your career. You’re the chief Bombshell of Life of a Bombshell Cosmetics, HERmovement, and The KSM Group. How is this possible?
I’m a stickler for time management. I’ve read so many books and articles on organization, prioritization and more. I’ve implemented routines that have worked for me but I will say that it is rooted in discipline. You have to ask yourself, “how bad do you want this?” Then do what it take to make it happen.
How do your entrepreneurial based dealings differ from your career in corporate America?
Simply put I can be more creative. When I worked in HR, I was limited by regulations in the financial services industry. Now, I can be more innovative in my ideas and how I help others.
What is the one attribute of business you’re most adamant about? The one thing that you implement in every aspect of your business?
Project plans! I create a project plan for everything I do. It’s the only way I can keep track of all of the minor tasks and due dates. Making mistakes and forgetting things can cost you in the long run. Even in goal setting, I write done every step that has to be taken and then assign a due date. I mostly use Microsoft Excel and Google Calendar for tracking.
Your consistency is unwavering. Are there any secrets to persistence as potent as yours?
Identify the automation tools that work best for you. There are so many on the market! I use Buffer, Onlypult and Mailchimp. These tools allow me to schedule all of my social media postings and emails. This means I can still be “present” event when I’m away.
(Fangirl Question) Now, I’m a lover of all things books, and as much as I’d love to step out of this question and remain professional, I would be a disservice to my mental. You’ve added an interesting title to your name. Author! * Ques fireworks * Tell us about your book.
Yas! First of all shout out to you Mercy. I do not think I would have finished my book this year without you. I’ve been putting this thing off for years! But your assistance with outlining the book as well as the cover helped me tremendously.
My book is called Bombshell of all Trades: Business and Branding Planner. It is part book and and part planner. It covers 10 fundamentals of managing a brand and then gives you space to create your strategic plan. To be honest, business planning can be intimidating. Who has honestly sat down with a business plan template, and knew how to complete the entire thing?! This book walks you through why and how you should plan for your business. Then, it gives you beautiful pink worksheets to use to create your profitable plan.
Who is your idea reader, as in what young woman was in your pretty little head when penning your title?
My ideal reader is someone who wants to elevate themselves. They know they have good ideas but aren’t sure how to execute them appropriately. They need help with branding, structuring and pricing their goods and services. My ideal reader is also someone who has already stepped out on faith in launching, but feels they aren’t getting the attention they deserve.
Pulling a tip or two from your overall message, what is the overall concept of, “Bombshell on Track?”
The overall concept is yes, you can in fact effectively start and manage your business as a solopreneur. And, when you are ready to hire people, you will be able to smoothly integrate them into your business processes.
Within your brand, I see the Twitter chats offers exposure and grows with budding entrepreneurs each month. What other social media platforms are you using for influence? Which do you gravitate more towards?
I’ve been using Instagram Stories a lot lately. I love it because it allows me to communicate better with my audience. As entrepreneurs we work to have beautifully curated Instagram feeds but sometimes that sells a dream that our lives and businesses are perfect. I don’t lie to my audience. Building a business is hard! Instagram Stories allows me to show them the early mornings and late nights. They’ve seen me stuffing envelopes in my pajamas to mail off Life of a Bombshell Cosmetics orders the next day. I’ve shared stories of anxiety and fatigue with them. It brings us closer together because they can see I’m a real human and I go through the same things they go through. I also love our #HERmovement Facebook community. We have some real conversations in there.
If you had limitless funds to hire a coach to help you progress in the entrepreneurial expanse, who would you chose and why?
Amber Aziza! I adore her and I can’t wait until I have the chance to work with her. I love her authenticity. She also has so much wisdom and expertise.
